Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has broken the record of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa by securing the highest number of popular votes in the ongoing parliamentary elections.
According to this, Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, who contested in the Colombo district, has secured the highest number of preference votes of 655,289 and has come first in the Colombo district.

Prime Minister Harini's votes are the highest in the history of parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka.
Prior to this, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was seen as the most popular Sri Lankan politician in the parliamentary elections.
He had secured maximum number of preference votes of 527,364 in Kurunagala district during the last general election of 2020.
