In Afghanistan, windows have been banned to prevent anyone from seeing women.
Ban on windows
The Supreme Leader of Afghanistan has ordered that windows should not be built in houses that are visible to women.
That is, windows in nearby houses that overlook the kitchen, backyard, and well, where women frequent, have been banned, according to government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid.
In addition to the order to build walls in places where windows are already installed, those building new houses are also prohibited from building windows that overlook neighboring houses.
Zabihullah said that if men see women walking in nearby houses, something immoral can happen, and therefore this measure has been taken to protect women from that.
Strict restrictions on women
In August 2021, the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan. Since then, strict restrictions have been imposed on women.
Women are banned from studying, working, and going to places like parks.
This year, women are banned from delivering babies and doing nursing work that involves women’s welfare.
A recent law has required women to cover not only their bodies but also their voices outside their homes.
Women are not allowed to broadcast their voices on the radio. Women are not allowed to walk with any man in public.
Violators face harsh punishments, including flogging, beheading, hanging, and nailing to a tree.
