Thousands of children worried by UK visa restrictions

Thousands of children have been left separated from their parents over Christmas due to Home Office restrictions.

UK visa restrictions

A British citizen or permanent resident must have a certain income level to get a visa to bring their non-British spouse to live with them in the UK.

The previous Conservative government had planned to increase that amount from £18,600 to £38,700 by spring 2025.

The current amount is £29,000.

So, those without that income level will not be able to bring their spouse to the UK.

This means that non-British spouses of British people will not be able to meet their spouses.

In particular, children are unable to spend Christmas with their parents who live in the UK.

Or, to put it another way, there are thousands of children who spend Christmas with only one parent, either their mother or father.
