Syrian President's Fugitive Wife Seeks Divorce

Asma, the beloved wife of Syrian President Assad, who is currently in exile in Russia, has reportedly filed for divorce.

She is said to have decided to leave the country

and return to Britain. Turkish and Arab newspapers have also reported that Asma is saying that she is not happy with life in Moscow.

Asma is said to have applied to a Russian court for special permission to leave the country, and her application is currently being considered by Russian authorities.

Born in London to Syrian parents, Asma holds dual citizenship. Asma married Bashar al-Assad in December 2000. Asma, a mother of three, has been trying to escape to London with her children since the start of the Syrian uprising.

The Russian administration has imposed strict restrictions on Assad, who has sought asylum in Russia. Although his asylum request was granted, he is banned from leaving Moscow or engaging in political activities.

In addition to his assets, Russian authorities have frozen all of his assets, including 270 kilograms of gold, $2 billion in cash, and 18 properties in Moscow.

The Assad family, which has ruled Syria for more than 50 years, has finally faced a crisis at the hands of rebel forces and civilians. It is noteworthy that Assad was forced to flee after rebels seized the capital.
