Germany has launched a program to modernize and upgrade its Taurus KEPD 350 cruise missiles.
Through this program, the capabilities of such missiles, which were introduced in 2005, will be upgraded to meet current requirements.
The German armed forces, the Bundeswehr, announced this modernization program on December 19.
Activities for this are scheduled to start from 2025.
The German government's BAAINBw procurement agency has concluded an agreement for this program. It is said that this will ensure the long-term use of the missile.
Missile highlights
The Taurus KEPD 350 cruise missile is manufactured with a weight of about 1,400 kilograms.
It can carry a range of up to 500 kilometers and can carry a 480 kilogram warhead for precision strikes.
The missile, currently used on the German Air Force's Panavia Tornado aircraft, is planned to be integrated into the Eurofighter project after 2030.
Developed jointly by German and Swedish industrial companies (MBDA and Saab Dynamics), the missile is also in service with the air forces of South Korea and Spain.
The development program is expected to meet the future needs of the German defense industry and strengthen its capabilities.
