A senior British military officer has warned that the world is on the brink of a third nuclear age.
Britain and its Western allies must be prepared to face new nuclear threats, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin, the head of the British armed forces, has warned.
He also said that the world is now on the brink of a third nuclear age.
He made this statement while addressing the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) security research center in London.
He said that the first age of nuclear power began during the Cold War, followed by a second age with disarmament efforts, and now the world has entered a third nuclear age, in which nuclear threats and exercises are becoming widespread again.
In this new age, the activities of countries such as Russia, China, Iran and North Korea are increasing.
In particular, Russia's nuclear weapons exercises have created a crisis for NATO countries, and many countries have been forced to take measures to ensure and enhance their security.
Britain's security situation
Explaining Britain's security position, Sir Tony confirmed that the possibility of Russia directly attacking Britain is very low.
However, he stressed that nuclear deterrents must be strengthened and improved.
Stressing the importance of nuclear weapons, he said that Britain's nuclear weapons have a great influence on Putin, and that previous governments have made huge investments in renewing Britain's nuclear submarines and weapons.
International nuclear threats
He commented that China's development of nuclear weapons, Iran's non-cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency and North Korea's missile programs have posed major challenges to global security.
He stressed that Britain must act with clear assessments to face such problems and be ready to ensure security at all times.
