We will seize the Panama Canal: Donald Trump's new threat

Donald Trump, who is upset about the high fees charged to American ships, has threatened to seize the Panama Canal once he comes to power.

A worrying trend

Donald Trump, who indirectly mentioned China's dominance in the management of the Panama Canal, said that this is a worrying trend for American interests, as American businesses depend on the Panama Canal to move goods between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.

Our navy and commercial ships have been treated very unfairly. Donald Trump also stated that the fees charged by the Panamanian administration are unfair.

He also said that this complete extortion of our nation must stop immediately. The Panama Canal, completed by the United States in 1914,

was ceded to the Central American nation of Panama under a 1977 treaty signed by Democratic President Jimmy Carter. But Panama has only had full control of the canal since 1999.

Donald Trump added that Panama should be the sole owner of the canal, not China or anyone else. He also said that the United States would never allow the canal to fall into the wrong hands.

Hand it over to us

He also said that if Panama’s administration cannot ensure safe, efficient and reliable operation of the canal, we will demand the full handover of the Panama Canal to us without any questions.

Five percent of global maritime traffic passes through the Panama Canal. It allows ships traveling between Asia and the US East Coast to avoid the long, dangerous route around the southern tip of South America.

Furthermore, the main users of the canal are businesses from the United States, China, Japan, and South Korea. It is noteworthy that Trump, a businessman, has always supported decisions that favor American industry.
