Donald Trump has paid tribute to the death of former US President Jimmy Carter.

James Earl Carter was the president of the United States from 1977 to 1981.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner turned 100 last October.
Carter passed away in Plains, Georgia. His son James E. Carter III announced his father's death.
With the death of James Carter at the age of 100, he became the longest-lived former president in American history.

World leaders have begun to pay their heartfelt tributes to the death of James Carter.
"I heard the news that Jimmy Carter has passed away," said Donald Trump, who won the presidential election. "We understand that this is a very exclusive club of those fortunate enough to serve as president. The challenges he faced as president came at a critical time for our country. And he did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans. For that, we all owe him a debt of gratitude."
