Three migrants die off French coast, 50 rescued

Three migrants have died off the coast of Calais, France, while trying to reach Britain.

Sangatte Mayor Guy Alamand confirmed the news, adding that seven people are in intensive care.

50 people have been rescued, some of whom have been taken to a rescue centre in Sangatte for treatment.

Many fell into the sea due to the overloading of the boat. The French navy and fire brigade joined the rescue effort.

A total of 35,491 people reached Britain in 2024.

The French and British governments have created a new port security command to take action against the dangerous practices of migrants crossing the border by boat.
