An Air Canada plane caught fire on landing, but all passengers were safely evacuated.
Air Canada Flight 2259, en route from St John's, Newfoundland to Goffs Airport in Nova Scotia, veered off course and caught fire on one side while landing.
The incident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday, according to an airport statement.
The flight was operated by PAL Airlines. All passengers on board were immediately evacuated and taken for medical evaluation.
The incident temporarily closed Halifax Airport. A passenger told CBC News that the incident occurred because the plane's tire failed during landing.
"The plane banked about 20 degrees to the left, its wing and engine skidded to the ground. Gas and smoke then entered the windows," he said.
