The UK visa rules for 2025 have made major changes to the economic and financial conditions and visa fees.
These changes affect students, tourists, job seekers and family members.
Key changes:
1. Living expenses:
- The minimum monthly living expense requirement has been increased from £1,334 to £1,400 for students studying in London.
- The living expenses requirement for students studying outside London has increased from £1,023 to £1,100.
- Students will also need to have sufficient funds for the first 9 months.
2. Visa fees:
- The fee for a tourist visa valid for six months has increased from £115 to £120.
- The fee for a student visa has increased from £490 to £510.
- The fee for a long-term tourist visa valid for two has increased from £400 to £420.
3. Work and family visas:
- Skilled Worker Visa applicants must show proof of £1,270, otherwise their employer must confirm this.
- For a family visa, spouses must have an annual income of at least £29,000.
- £3,800 for the first child and £2,400 for each additional child.
4. Proof of living expenses:
- Applicants can also show their capital savings as financial evidence.
If the applicant has a British or Irish child or if rejecting their application would violate their human rights, they may be eligible for a visa even if they do not meet the income criteria.
Meanwhile, the British government has announced that it will extend its seasonal worker visa scheme for an additional five years until 2029. It has also announced that it will issue 43,000 visas for seasonal workers in the agricultural sector.
