The capital city of Tehran has heard explosions from Israel's airstrikes against Iran.
Israel's military claims that all of its jets have returned safely and that the strikes were directed at Iranian military sites.
According to an Iranian news agency affiliated to the Revolutionary Guards, military installations in the west and southwest of the Iranian capital were attacked. Two soldiers were killed, according to Iranian official media.
The strikes, according to the Israel Defense Forces, are retaliation for "months of continuous attacks" from Iran and following an onslaught of Iranian missiles that struck Israel on October 1.
The Pentagon claims that although the US was informed of the strikes in advance, it was not involved in the operation.

Hamas, an armed group and political movement in Gaza, strongly condemns the Israeli strikes on military sites in Iran, stating they are a violation of Iranian sovereignty and an escalation targeting the region's security.
The group also acknowledges that Iran has successfully nullified the impact of the strikes and appreciates Iran's support for the Palestinian people and their cause.
The Iranian army has reported that two soldiers have been killed in Israeli air strikes, according to state media reports. The statement from the army, cited by IRNA, reflects the sacrifices made by the Iranian army in defending its security and protecting the people and interests of the country, while countering projectiles from the criminal Zionist regime.
