Elon Musk has announced that the popular social media platform X (X) will no longer need hashtags.
From Twitter to X
Twitter, which caused a stir in the social media world, was acquired by Elon Musk, the world's richest man and the head of Tesla and SpaceX, two years ago.
Musk, who renamed Twitter to "X", made various drastic changes to the company. Most importantly, he fired many senior officials and employees and introduced new changes to the design and structure of the X platform.
He also introduced new features such as video and audio calls and an artificial intelligence chatbot ("grok").
Hashtags are no longer needed
In this situation, Elon Musk's announcement that hashtags are no longer needed on the X platform has sparked a new debate.
Hashtags have been a key part of the platform, both before and now as X.
Users could easily search for specific topics and information by adding hashtags related to their posts.
Hashtags also allowed them to see which topics were trending.
However, Musk has now categorically stated that hashtags are no longer needed.
Musk expressed his opinion by sharing a response from a Kort chatbot to a question asked by a user. "The system doesn't need hashtags, they look ugly," he said.
Internet experts suggest that other methods may have been developed to find out what is currently trending on the X platform, which is why Musk is saying this.
