The US issued over one million non-immigrant visas to Indians in 2024.
This is a new record as it issued over a million visas for the second consecutive year.
A large portion of these visas were for tourism, business and educational purposes.
The number of Indian tourists in 2024 has increased 5-fold in the last four years.
“The visa interview delays have been reduced and the process of applying for a second visa has been simplified, making it easier for Indians to travel to the US,” says the Indian Mission in the US.
Over 2 million Indians have travelled to the US in the first 11 months of 2024.
This marks a 26 percent increase compared to 2023.
Also, the ‘H-1B’ visa renewal process for Indian professionals in the US was completed for the first time in the US.
This allowed them to renew their work-related visas without leaving the US.
In terms of education, India ranked first in sending the largest number of international students to the US in 2024. 331,000 students studied in the US.
These developments are seen as further strengthening India-US relations.
