UK Skilled Worker Visa Changes Effective January 1

The UK government has announced major changes to its immigration rules.

It has set new salary requirements for the Skilled Worker Visa from January 1, 2025.

This presents a challenge for job applicants looking to work in the UK, but also an opportunity for highly skilled workers.

New salary requirements

- The minimum salary for general applicants has been increased from £26,200 to £38,700.

- For those with a relevant PhD, it has been increased from £23,800 to £34,830.

- For STEM PhDs, it has been increased from £20,960 to £30,960.

- A salary requirement of £30,960 has also been imposed on new entrants with minimal experience.

Benefits and impacts

- The number of jobs available on the Skilled Worker Visa will decrease, but competition for them may increase.

- In industries, particularly in software development, engineering and healthcare, job seekers will need higher salary conditions.

- The salary increases will mean higher costs for employers, but will help attract qualified workers.

The change is seen as a major step towards improving the UK’s immigration system.

From 2025, applicants and employers will need to plan to comply with these new rules.
