The head of the Russian military's chemical weapons division has been killed in a bomb blast.
Bombing
A bomb exploded near a residential building in southeast Moscow early Tuesday, killing two people.
One of the victims was identified as Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the head of the army's chemical, biological and radiological weapons division. The other was said to be his aide.
He was the most senior Russian military officer to be killed in such a blast in Moscow since the Kremlin's invasion of Ukraine began nearly three years ago.
Explosive device
Russia's Investigative Committee said Kirillov was killed on the morning of December 17 after an explosive device was detonated on a motorcycle parked near the entrance to a residential building on Ryazansky Avenue in Moscow.
A reporter at the scene reported that the blast shattered several windows in the building and caused severe damage to the front door.
