Britain has decided to deploy state-of-the-art drones to identify groups of small boat migrants.
Help from companies
For this purpose, Home Office officials are reportedly seeking gadgets that can record high-quality videos even when flying at distances beyond the reach of sight.
Not only that, they have also demanded that photographs be accurately recorded for prosecution. Drones used before have been used only for surveillance.
But now ministers have decided to seek the help of companies that excel in technology and enter into contracts.
Punishment in the New Year
The contract states that targets, including people, vehicles and boats, must be accurately detected and identified, and that all drone recordings must be sufficient evidence to prosecute.
So far this year alone, 33,000 people have crossed the English Channel illegally. Three men who had repeatedly failed in their attempts to smuggle migrants in small boats were convicted last month.
