The British warship HMS Portland has been equipped with new missiles.
The British Royal Navy ship HMS Portland (Type 23 Frigate) has now replaced the outdated Harpoon missile with a new Naval Strike Missile (NSM) missile system.
Naval Strike Missile (NSM):
The Naval Strike missile, developed by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (KDA), is capable of accurately hitting targets at sea and on land.
The new technology in this missile is capable of easily destroying enemy defenses.
Its Autonomous Target Recognition (ATR) is capable of accurately hitting targets.
It is designed to operate in a stealth mode.
This missile uses a powerful explosive developed by the TDW company.
Naval Strike Missile Features:
The 3.96-meter-long, 407-kilogram missile has a range of 100 nautical miles (over 185 km) at a speed of 0.7–0.9 Mach.
The missile can be used to attack both sea and land targets.
The missile is currently in service with the navies of Britain, Norway, Poland, the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, and Spain.
The Royal Navy has implemented a plan to install the NSM system on a total of 11 ships, including Type 23 Frigates and Type 45 Destroyers.
Britain has achieved an important milestone in its efforts to improve its defense capabilities with this new missile system and improve the country's warship technology.
