The Anti-Corruption Unit's new Independent Chair is appointed by the ICC

 
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has appointed Sumathi Dharmawardena P.C. as the new Independent Chair of the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU), replacing Sir Ronnie Flanagan who retired after 14 years. 

Dharmawardena, who previously served as an Additional Solicitor General at the Attorney General's Department of Sri Lanka, has extensive experience representing the Sri Lankan government in various legal matters.



The new ACU Chair, Sumathi Dharmawardena, has worked with Interpol and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to investigate corruption in sports. 

He has overseen investigations under the Prevention of Offences relating to Sports Act and represented Sri Lanka in negotiations with global sporting organizations. 

The Independent Chair of the ICC's Anti-Corruption Unit leads the ACU, managed by the General Manager - Integrity. Dharmawardena will start in November 2024.
