Switzerland opposes cooperation with NATO: Government demands

Due to the war with Russia in Ukraine, there is a demand for Switzerland, which is considered a neutral country, to cooperate with NATO on one side.

At the same time, the Swiss People's Party, one of Switzerland's political parties, has put forward a motion calling for Switzerland to remain neutral.

The motion says that Switzerland should not join any military organization like NATO.

The government's demand

However, the ruling Federal Council has asked the people to ignore the motion.

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis has said that neutrality should be flexible and that the only country that does not consider Switzerland to be a neutral country is Russia.

In addition, the Swiss government believes that if Switzerland does not cooperate at least a little with NATO, it will be a threat to the country's security.

However, it is noteworthy that 130,000 people have so far signed the motion put forward by the Swiss People's Party.
