Buttler will not be captaining England; Livingstone will

When England's white-ball tour of the West Indies begins, all-rounder Liam Livingstone will captain the team after Jos Buttler's recuperation from a calf injury was delayed.

Buttler, 34, will miss three one-day internationals in the Caribbean after the T20 World Cup in June. He remains in the squad as skipper for the T20 series. Michael Pepper, uncapped Essex wicketkeeper, has been added to the ODI squad, and Livingstone will lead England in the ODI series.

Livingstone, an all-rounder who was initially left out of the ODI squad for Australia, has made a remarkable turnaround by replacing injured Buttler. He has captained Lancashire in the T20 Blast and Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred.

England's captain, Buttler, has suffered his third calf injury since 2021, despite not playing since England's exit at the T20 World Cup.

Buttler was initially ruled out of The Hundred but was retained as captain and was selected for England's Australia match. He pulled out of the T20 series due to an issue and aimed to return for the five ODIs but withdraws. Harry Brook captained England in the ODI series against Australia but is not part of the squad for this tour.

England's squad for the West Indies includes Jos Buttler (captain), Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Jafer Chohan, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Saqib Mahmood, Dan Mousley, Jamie Overton, Michael Pepper, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, and John Turner. Two more players will be added from the Test squad currently in Pakistan.
