The Russian embassy in London has described Britain's plan to provide a $2.5 billion loan to Ukraine as a blatant daylight robbery.
Loan to Ukraine
A loan of $2.5 billion will be provided to Ukraine from Russian assets frozen after the war in Ukraine.
Britain, which had explained this in October, had stated that this was the largest loan to Ukraine with the approval of the G7 countries and that it was a part of the amount frozen by the Russian Central Bank.
The amount of Rs 21,238 crore in Indian currency can be used by Ukraine to purchase weapons and repair damaged infrastructure. The loan was approved by the G7 countries including Britain, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United States in July.
At this point, Russian embassy officials in London have expressed their strong criticism. They have said that lending a large amount of Russian money frozen in European countries to Ukraine is a blatant robbery and that they are closely monitoring this action by Britain.
Daylight robbery
Meanwhile, British Defense Minister John Healy said that the money will be allowed to be used only for the Ukrainian military.
He also said that the amount will help develop drones that can travel further than some long-range missiles.
Last week, the Russian Foreign Ministry also registered its strong opposition to the loan. The G7 countries have decided to provide a total of $ 50 billion in frozen Russian money.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that this is just a daylight robbery.
