In November alone, Russia captured territory in Ukraine the size of Singapore.
This is the largest area captured by Russia since the start of the war.
According to an analysis conducted by Agence France-Presse (AFP), based on data from the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW), Russian forces captured 725 square kilometers of territory in November.
It is noteworthy that Singapore is only 719 square kilometers in area.
While Russia captured 610 square kilometers of territory in October, November broke its record.
In 2024, Russian forces captured a total of 3,500 square kilometers of territory.
This is 6 times more than the territory captured in all of 2023.
Russia's main advances have taken place in the Donetsk region. Ukraine’s control of the region has dropped from 40% at the beginning of 2024 to 33%.
Experts say Russian forces will continue to advance through the winter.
Russian losses
However, Russia has suffered heavy losses in its military. According to Ukrainian data, 2,000 Russian soldiers died in a single day late last month.
While Russia’s territorial gains have grown, military losses remain a major challenge to its power.
