Britain has rejected Russian President Vladimir Putin's apology for the Azerbaijan plane crash.
The Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane crashed while attempting to land in Kazakhstan after taking off from Baku, Azerbaijan, to Grozny, Russia.
It has also called for a proper investigation into the crash.
38 people died in the crash, while 29 survived.
Although the Russian government explained that Russian air defense measures were taken in connection with the crash, Putin apologized to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for the tragic incident in Russian airspace. However, he refused to accept direct responsibility for it.
The British Foreign Office said, "Such reckless and irresponsible actions pose a direct threat to the security and interests of other countries."
“Our deepest condolences to the victims and their families,” a State Department spokesman said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy demanded that Russia provide its own explanation. “Explanations of how the crash happened are very important,” he said.
There have been allegations that Russia mistakenly shot down the Azerbaijani plane for a drone.
Meanwhile, Azerbaijan Airlines said it had suspended some flights to Russian airports and that the crash was caused by “internal and technical interference.”
