Elon Musk will counsel the Trump White House on the effectiveness of government.

A new US Department of Government Efficiency, which Elon Musk will co-lead, would advise President-elect Donald Trump's White House on ways to streamline and reduce the federal government.

With the department operating outside of government but providing "guidance" to the White House, the billionaire will split the position with former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

The position seems to be Mr. Musk's compensation for his outspoken and public support of Mr. Trump's return to the White House, which includes hundreds of millions of dollars donated by a political action committee he owns and constant postings to his social media platform, X.

Trump announced that Elon Musk and Elon Musk will work outside the government to provide advice and guidance to the White House and partner with the Office of Management and Budget to drive large-scale structural reform and create an entrepreneurial approach to government.

Musk responded to the announcement on X, stating that the merch will be (fire emojis) and that the threat to democracy is not to bureaucracy.

SpaceX and Tesla owner Elon Musk has suggested that he could save at least two trillion dollars in government spending, nearly a third of its total annual spend.

President Trump wants the organization to conclude its work by July 4, 2026, aiming for it to become "potentially the Manhattan Project of our time." The UK government looks forward to working with Musk and others selected for top US government roles, despite a spat between the billionaire and the government over the summer riots in the UK.

Musk promoted false claims suggesting a civil war in the UK is "inevitable" and attacked Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, using the phrase "two-tier Kier".

He also posted critical comments on his platform aimed at the Government, including "This needs to stop" in response to Daily Telegraph columnist Allison Pearson's visit by Essex Police investigating whether a post she made on X last year could cause racial hatred.

The UK's official spokesman said they look forward to working with President-elect Trump and his team on a wide range of issues to advance the US and UK relationship.
